Market celebrates fresh start after move to new location in Downham Market
A market in Downham selling a variety of homemade goods marked a new chapter at the weekend, when they held their first event in a new venue.
Downham Market Country Market, which sells cakes, knitwear, crafts and more items made by a team of local producers, held its first event of the year and its first ever market at the Stables Bar, behind the Crown Hotel, on Saturday.
A spokesperson for Downham Market Country Market said: “We were looking for a more central location and it seems to have been working well already as we had a very good market.”
The spokesperson said they plan to see how the rest of the markets at the Stables Bar fare until April, after which they will decide where the rest of the year’s events will be held.
The country market, which is held on the first Saturday of each month from 10am to 1pm, will also continue to host events at its previous Saturday location, Discover Downham, but these will instead be held on Fridays.
The next Friday markets at Discover Downham, on Priory Road, are due to take place on February 14, March 13 and April 17 from 10am to 1pm.
The market has been held in Downham for between 30 and 40 years, although in the past it was located outside the town hall until organisers stepped down around four years ago, after which it moved to Discover Downham.
