Swaffham Town Council looks to tackle ‘dangerous’ fencing and road which is an ‘accident waiting to happen’
Councillors have announced plans to tackle “dangerous” fencing, roads and footpaths in their town.
At Swaffham Town Council’s full meeting last week, members raised various issues in the town, with a range of remedies put forward.
Cllr Judy Anscombe, who represents the town on Breckland Council, attended the meeting, telling those present that fencing around the pond at Admiral Nelson’s Way has been replaced.
She said it was “dangerous” and, because children often play in the area around it, it had to be re-fitted.
Cllr Anscombe also said that temporary patching will be put in place on the Haspalls Road footpath within the next few weeks for safety reasons.
On June 3, a full resurfacing of the path will take place.
Cllr Paul Darby called for Norfolk County Council’s highways department to look into improving traffic calming measures at White Cross Road.
He said a lack of drivers who give way to others turning out of its junction mean that travelling along it can be unsafe.
“It is a nightmare coming out of there,” Cllr Darby said.
“You edge halfway across there and they still try and come across you on that road.
“It is an accident waiting to happen – there have been accidents already there.”
Cllr Steph Cooper said there are two “massive” potholes on Castle Acre Road, heading towards Tesco.
“That will do serious damage to motor vehicles,” she said.
Cllr Anscombe said the matter has been reported to the highways team, with one of the potholes already filled in.
