Staff at Morrisons in Fakenham were shocked to see American movie star John Travolta in the aisles as he popped in to grab a fillet steak.

Mr Middleton, who says that his favourite John Travolta flick is the iconic 1978 musical Grease, didn't "think it was him" at first.

He said: "I honestly didn't think it was him but he put his hand out to greet me when I walked towards him.

"We exchanged a few words and a joke and took the picture, he's a great bloke and a real pleasure to meet, seemed like such an easygoing person and I left the store with a great buzz."

Other staff at Morrisons were lucky enough to get a picture with the superstar before he went to eat a burger at the Dereham Wetherspoons.

Nicola Gee, who works at Morrisons also saw the Pulp Fiction star.

She said: "Wow what a crazy day at work - it was just a normal shift and in the afternoon I looked up and saw John Travolta shopping in our store!

"We started to question if it was really him and what a total shock to see a film megastar in Norfolk.

"Growing up I remember watching Grease, Pulp Fiction and Face Off and I never expected to meet him in person especially whilst at work.

"All of the staff including myself were excited and wanted the opportunity to get a photo with him so we went over and asked him and he agreed much to my delight.

"He was very pleasant - definitely a memory to treasure."

The novel relates the story of a De Havilland Vampire pilot, going home on Christmas Eve 1957, whose aircraft suffers a complete electrical failure en route from RAF Celle in northern Germany to RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk.

Lost in fog over the North Sea and low on fuel, he encounters a De Havilland Mosquito fighter-bomber, which has apparently been sent up to guide him.

Travolta took a day off filming yesterday to celebrate daughter Ella's 22nd birthday with afternoon tea and posted a sweet message to social media site Instagram.

The doting dad said: "Happy birthday to my dearest Ella! I love you so much.

"We're here in England having afternoon tea to celebrate and I'm also here to shoot a short film called "The Shepherd" that I've always loved."
