James Wild MP visits Marshland High and Walton Primary to discuss issues and support their success

To support recent boundary changes in Norfolk, James Wild MP has begun to visit different schools to discuss issues and celebrate their successes.

As a consequence of a review of election boundaries last year, Marshland High School and West Walton Primary School are now in the North West Norfolk constituency.

Last Friday, Mr Wild visited the schools to converse with both its staff and pupils - meaning he has now visited over 40 schools.

At Marshland High, head teacher Craig Jenson outlined key issues such as attendance and SEND - Mr Wild discussed how he could support the high school through his parliamentary work.

Throughout his visit, he also welcomed Marshland High’s strong academic performance - ranking in the top 20% nationally - and diverse extracurricular programme, which includes music, drama, and international trips to New York, Nepal, Barcelona, Japan and Florida.

Whilst touring the school, the MP had joined the classes in a thought provoking debate on Just War Theory, lung strength in PE and printmaking in art, followed by a Q&A with the students to hear their issues and how their voices can be better represented.

At West Walton Primary, which was rated ‘Good’ in its latest Ofsted inspection, Mr Wild was welcomed by head of school Caraline Lock and was given a tour by the head girl, Annabella Williams, and chair and vice chair of the school council, Ruby Casey and Ellis Bell.

He visited the nursery, observed phonics, PE lessons and ended his visit with a Q&A which covered topics from work-life balance, whether he had met the Prime Minister, how he could help the school get more funding and how he was going to help the hospital in Lynn.

After his visit, Mr Wild said: “It was a pleasure to visit Marshland High and West Walton Primary and see the dedication of staff and the enthusiasm of pupils.”

“As part of my focus on better educational outcomes, it is important to spend time in schools to understand the issues that matter most and how I can support their success.”
