West Norfolk Council installs new recycling bins along Hunstanton promenade to help keep beach clean of litter

A new set of recycling bins have been installed to help keep a popular beach clear of litter heading into the school holidays.

West Norfolk Council has put four blue bins in place along the promenade in Hunstanton, which will be used to collect plastic bottles and cans.

Located close to the Oasis Leisure Centre, they will be monitored to determine whether or not they are well used over the coming months.

Cllr Sandra Squire, the borough council’s cabinet member for environment and coastal, said: “I am delighted that we can trial the recycling of bottles and cans on Hunstanton promenade.

“It’s important to offer our visitors the opportunity to both help keep the prom and the beach free of litter and now also to be more sustainable.

“Recycling drinks bottles and cans helps to reduce our impact on the environment and using the bins responsibly will also help to stop waste polluting the sea.”

The material collected in the bins will be sent to the sorting facility on the edge of Norwich, and then sold onto processors across the country to make new products.

The bins have openings which are designed for bottles and cans only, and are labelled so that they are “very easy for everyone to use”.
