New home for nesting birds in Marham

A new home for wild birds was created at a Marham housing estate, with several handcrafted nesting boxes donated to residents ahead of nesting season.

Property management company Annington stepped up to encourage native breeding birds to flourish in the area after research revealed there are 19 million fewer pairs of the birds in the UK compared to the late 1960's.

Louise Saunders, sales and marketing manager at Annington, said: “We are proud to play our part in protecting declining birdlife populations by encouraging our residents to make a home for nature in their gardens.

"With so much wildlife already on the development’s doorstep thanks to its unique village setting and proximity to the nearby Marham Fen, we wanted to find a way to help residents share their gardens with native birds and ensure that they have a safe habitat to raise their young this spring.”

Residents at the Field View development were invited to install the handcrafted nestboxes in their gardens to provide a natural home for nesting birds including great tits, pied flycatchers, tree sparrows, and house sparrows.

A resident at Field View said: “I love to help the local wildlife wherever I can and am very happy to have a nestbox in my garden, as the local birds are already enjoying my feeders.”
