King's Lynn Tandoori due to open in Wootton Road, Gaywood
A new Indian restaurant is due to open in Gaywood tomorrow on the exact anniversary of its sister business launching in Downham 23 years ago.
Anwar Ali, who founded Downham Tandoori which has expanded its High Street premises over the years to meet demand, will be opening King's Lynn Tandoori at 1 Wootton Road, in premises formerly occupied by the Blue Iris restaurant.
Anwar told the Lynn News: "At Downham I have customers who regularly travel from places such as Heacham and Hunstanton to eat in the restaurant, which is why I thought it would be a good idea to open somewhere closer to those areas.
"So I am confident there will be plenty of customers wanting to dine at the new King's Lynn Tandoori.
"I have had lots of support and help from my friends and family to prepare for the opening of the Gaywood business, which is a truly beautiful restaurant."
He opened the Downham Tandoori on February 12, 1997, and has realised his aim of opening the Gaywood restaurant on the same day of the year.
The new restaurant, which has created 15 new jobs and has 66 covers, will be opened by West Norfolk Mayor Geoff Hipperson tomorrow evening. North West Norfolk MP James Wild is also due to attend on Friday.
Anwar said he will be sharing his time between the King's Lynn Tandoori and the Downham one.
The menu will be the same as the one at Downham, although there will be a selection of different dishes in Gaywood too.
King's Lynn Tandoori will be open every day, from noon to 2pm for lunches and from 5.30pm to 11pm for evening meals. There will also be a takeaway service available.
Bookings for King's Lynn Tandoori can be made via its Facebook page or by calling the Downham restaurant on 01366 386110 until the new phone number becomes available.
