RAF Marham welcomes new station commander




RAF Marham welcomed Group Captain Phil Marr as the new Station Commander of the base this week.

Outgoing Station Commander, Group Captain James Beck handed over the reins in a short ceremony at the Blue Bull Roundabout. Group Capt Marr is no stranger to RAF Marham as he has served here on four previous occasions.

Group Capt James Beck’s message as he hands over command of the station was presented in a video on the RAF Marham facebook page.

“For me, Jim Beck this is a bittersweet moment. I’ve served here since 2001 and definitely the crescendo of my time in the RAF is working with you as Station Commander of this amazing base.

"But I don’t want this to be about me. It’s a thank you to you for the wonders you have done for the last two years. We’ve had the global pandemic like no other and yet we’ve achieved more that I could ever have aspired to do.

"We’ve seen the passing of Tornado, we've got a Gate Guard which will come to celebrate that period but we’ve moved on with the next generation of warfare. Most importantly has been the support structures around this amazing base.

"Be it those that come through the gates or the families that support service personnel, civilians and the whole force. You all make a massive difference.

"For me it has been humbling to observe. Thank you.”
