New Sunny Hunny Triathlon to celebrate beauty of town

A new triathlon is coming to West Norfolk this summer after plenty of local interest according to an organiser.

The first Sunny Hunny Triathlon will take place on Sunday, May 19 from the Alive Oasis in Hunstanton at 7.45am.

Participants will be challenged to swim 200m, followed by an 18km cycle around the town.

They will then run a 3.5km route along the cliff tops to the lighthouse before finishing on the Green.

Jess Bailey, one of the organisers from Lynn’s triathlon club, said it will be a great opportunity to “showcase the beauty of the town”.

She added: “There has been a lot of local in holding a triathlon and we wanted to put something on to celebrate the gardens in Hunstanton.

“This is a super sprint distance triathlon, meaning the distances feel more manageable.

“It’s an ideal introduction for those who have never done one before but can be equally challenging for seasoned triathletes”.

A free drop-in session will be held at the Alive Oasis Cafe between 6pm and 8pm on Thursday, April 11 for anyone interested in finding out more about the event and the sport.

The event is being organised by Lynn’s triathlon club in partnership with the borough council and Alive Oasis.

It forms part of the Hunstanton Heritage Garden Project, funded by Heritage Lottery.

“With a little bit of training, most people could complete this distance”, Mrs Bailey said.

“Triathlon is addictive and the buzz you get is amazing.

“Plus it’s an excuse to come to Hunstanton, get a medal and, of course, eat some cake!”

Entry is for those aged 15 and over, and costs £35 per person.

A mandatory race briefing will take place on the day at 7.15am, 30 minutes before the event starts.
