New surveys to be carried out in Hunstanton

Topographic survey works to Hunstanton’s southern seafront area is set to begin next week.

The area was selected as a priority for regeneration works in last year’s Hunstanton Prosperity Coastal Community Team prospectus.

Contractors, which were appointed by West Norfolk Council, will be seen in and around the southern seafront area including the southern part of the prom, the Oasis Leisure Centre, car parks and the former Kit Kat site, among more.

HemingwayDesign was appointed to develop a masterplan for the area earlier this month.

The topographic survey will identify and map contours on the sites and any existing above or slightly below ground features such as manholes, utility poles, retaining walls and tree.

The survey will provide accurate information, which will assist with the development of future plans for the area.

Private owners and leaseholders within the study area have been informed that the survey is taking place.

West Norfolk Council’s cabinet member for performance and economic development, Peter Hodson said: “This survey work is a vital stage of the project and helps to determine development options and feasibility for each site.

“This information will be used by HemingwayDesign, and will also be used in elements of our Coastal Management Plan and One Public Estate work, as some sites overlap with these projects.”

Survey work has already been carried out in the bus station and library area of the town under the One Public Estate initiative and further survey work will be carried out on other sites identified under One Public Estate in the coming months.

Borough council cabinet member for corporate projects and assets, Alistair Beales said: “It’s important that people know that we are looking at a number of projects that will ensure that publicly-owned assets are rationalised to improve services, reduce costs and drive growth and development.

“We are also looking at regeneration projects to increase tourism and investment opportunities in the area.

“With all these projects we are very much at the information gathering stage. This data will inform the development of future proposals.”
