North Lynn man admits assaulting doorman at town nightspot

A father-of-three ended up with a £657 court bill and without his new girlfriend following a bust-up at a Lynn nightclub.

Mario Antonio Carvalho was on a night out with the woman but things turned sour after his ex-wife also went into Mojito Lounge, magistrates were told yesterday.

When Carvalho, 39, was asked to leave, he slapped a doorman, breaking his earpiece. He then resisted arrest in the early hours of December 15 last year.

Prosecutor Jane Walker said: “PC Morris had to handcuff Mr Carvalho as he was resisting arrest. He was agitated and struggling against the officer. He kicked out at the van door so that it couldn’t be shut properly.”

Miss Walker said Carvalho threw hot chocolate at the camera in the custody cell before soiling the area.

He pleaded guilty to assault, criminal damage to the earpiece, criminal damage to the cell and resisting a police office in the execution of their duty.

Mitigating, Alison Muir said Carvalho knew the doorman from previous visits and thought he had a good relationship with him. He also felt he had been treated unfairly by being asked to leave following the altercation.

She added: “Mr Carvalho had gone out to impress because he had a new girlfriend but the atmosphere changed when his ex-wife turned up. That was the end of the new relationship before it had really started.”

Carvalho, of Turbus Road, North Lynn, was fined £300 and ordered to pay a total of £242 in compensation amounts, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
