Nurse recruitment day at King’s Lynn hospital a big success

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital has held its first Nurse Recruitment Open Day of 2024 with 15 new nursing colleagues joining the team.

The special event for registered nurses, trainee nurses and those returning to practice was held at the Lynn hospital’s cutting-edge Education & Innovation Centre and was supported by nursing and workforce colleagues, all keen to demonstrate the many benefits of working at QEH.

It was the third open day in the past four months which has now collectively resulted in 37 new nursing staff appointed into key roles across the hospital’s 33 wards and services.

A total of 68 people attended – some from as far away as London – with 22 pre-registered for interview. Five healthcare assistants were recruited alongside the 15 new nurses, with many other attendees interested in roles such as domestic and catering assistants signposted to other recruitment events.

Chief Nurse Pippa Street said: “Our series of nurse recruitment events are getting better and better, proving a winning formula for registered and trainee nurses to spend a few hours here. They can listen to colleagues who will articulate just what it’s to be part of TeamQEH as well as the learning and development opportunities and many other benefits that we can offer.

“I am delighted that we will be welcoming 15 new nursing colleagues to our teams across the Trust with so many of them excited to join our organisation and be part of our plans for a new state-of-the-art hospital, which will be built on the QEH site and open to patients in 2030.

“It really is an exciting time to be part of our organisation. In October we opened our newly configured Emergency Department following a £2.7million investment to improve ambulance handovers, patient experience and provide modern facilities for clinical teams to deliver urgent care.

“Later this year we will open our new state-of-the-art Diagnostic Centre which will provide some much-needed additional imaging capacity which will in turn drive forward a reduction in waiting times for our outpatients.”

The next Nurse Recruitment Open Day will take place on Saturday, April 6 from 10am to 2pm.

Register now and book your place to meet some of the nursing team members between 10am and 2pm, enjoy a tour, and even have the chance to be interviewed on the day.

Whether you are an experienced registered nurse, returning to practice, or training to become a nurse, the hospital has opportunities in its existing and new modern facilities.

At the open day, you’ll hear directly from nurses about what it’s really like working here.

If you would like to be interviewed on the day, please apply for a role or email careers@qehkl.nhs.uk for more details.
