Old Hunstanton lighthouse lit up in NHS tribute

A prominent West Norfolk landmark has been lit up in thanks to NHS staff and other key workers.

As communities across the borough again showed their appreciation for those on the frontline against coronavirus last night, the lighthouse at Old Hunstanton was the setting for a spectacular projection display.

As well as specific reference to the NHS, the show also included the name of Chrissie Emerson, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital healthcare assistant whose death from the virus was announced last week.

The event was the first of a series of light shows which the DJ and events company Jak Ropa has organised for the next few weeks, to coincide with the weekly Clap for Carers.

A spokesperson for the company said: “I have many friends and family who are key frontline workers putting themselves at risk everyday to help during these difficult times and I wanted to show my appreciation.

“The business has grown to what it is with thanks to not only our commercial customers but our local customers who have been the backbone within our customers to help us grow and develop.

"This is a gesture to give back to the local community a service of ours they may not have yet experienced.

“The sites we have chosen are not only landmarks to the area and hold great stories and memories but are the locations we all perhaps drive by every day and take for granted they exist.

“This will allow the local community to see them in a different way. Lighting used correctly can really excel the most wonderful of features.

“This is a non-profiting exercise and I’m sure will be greatly appreciated across the area. As a business this will be an opportunity for us to showcase what we can achieve with our vast stock of AV (Audio-Visual) lighting hire equipment.”
