The company claims it will help to meet local needs and will provide 24-hour support and care for the frail elderly meeting residential, nursing and dementia needs. It will also create around 70 jobs.

According to the design statement, bedrooms will be arranged over three storeys and there will be a range of communal facilities including garden and outdoor space.

There will be communal dining facilities and day spaces including lounges, activity rooms and cafe facilities on each floor and hairdressers, treatment room and cinema on the first and second floors.

The plans also incorporate 27 parking spaces including electric charging bays.

The home will be close to the proposed Lidl supermarket site on the edge of town.

The application asks for permission to demolish two former police houses at 157 and 159 Bexwell Road so that work can start.
