West Norfolk businesses warned after woman’s mobile phone stolen at Downham Market estate agent
Officers have told businesses to “keep an eye out” after a woman had her mobile phone stolen in an estate agents.
Those working in public-facing shops or office buildings are being warned about ‘distraction thieves’ following the incident, which took place in Downham last Friday.
Norfolk Police are concerned that the same techniques may be used in other parts of the county, as they have seen similar instances before in Lynn, Dersingham and Hunstanton - as well as the North Norfolk coast.
Advice has been given to help people keep their belongings safe:
• Do not leave personal items out on desks or counters that can be accessed by the public.
• Be mindful of people who come in and try to distract staff – this could be through asking for directions or similar information.
• If anything does happen, call 999 immediately.
“If this does happen to you please call us immediately on 999 with the details,” a West Norfolk Police spokesperson said.
“Please do share this information with anyone who you think may need it -hairdressers, beauty salons, shops, estate agents and other professional services.”
