Praise for district council at London awards night
Breckland Council was a finalist at a prestigious national awards event in London last week.
The council was in the running for the ‘Innovation’ category at the Local Government Chronicle Awards 2019.
A training team, known as Breckland Training Services (BTS), was recognised during the awards on Wednesday, March 13.
This team delivers support to council staff when attempting to provide a better community service as well as generating income for support services.
Breckland narrowly missed out on the top prize after being pitted against councils such as Hammersmith and Fulham, North East Lincolnshire, Rochdale and City of London Corporation.
Deputy leader of Breckland, Sam Chapman-Allen said: “While I’m disappointed the council didn’t win, being a finalist at these national awards is a fantastic achievement.
“Breckland was the only district council finalist in its category and this is testament to the excellent work delivered by the BTS team.
“Breckland Training Services is unique to other training services in the country because it offers training to the public sector from within the sector.”
One event organised by BTS gives junior council staff a chance to take on the role of a fictional council’s senior management team for a day.
