Roaring success as senior lunch fills Swaffham school hall
More than 70 people sat down to a traditional Christmas lunch thanks to a Swaffham charitable group.
The Swaffham Lions hosted their annual event at the Sacred Heart School.
Many of the guests arrived by bus and were welcomed with a glass of sherry by Lions president John Collins.
Among those who attended were Swaffham mayor Jill Skinner, town councillor Paul Darby and Sisters from the school.
Mrs Skinner said: “As usual the Lions did a splendid annual seniors dinner at the Convent, ferrying people from their homes.
“It was all lovely and jolly with bingo, music and Santa.”
Entertainment was provided by the Phoenix Singers who sang Christmas Carols, while local councillor Mr Darby hosted three rounds of bingo.
On the Lions, Mrs Skinner said: “They are a remarkable group of people Swaffham could not do without, a great many thanks.
“As for the Convent, what I can say is they continue to support the town with their participation at Remembrance Day and recently the Churches Together carol service. They were brilliant.”
The lunch was organised by the Swaffham Lions Welfare team, headed by Bobbie Elsom.
This involved preparing the vegetables which were supplied free of charge by Tesco. cooking the meal and washing up.
During his speech, Swaffham Lions president John Collins thanked the Sacred Heart Sisters for the use of the dining room and kitchen.
He also thanked St. John Ambulance and the Lionesses. For more information on the Lions call Dennis Tallon on 07810773601.
