Downham Market Rotary Club gifts around 100 uniforms to the The Gambia from former school in Stow Bardolph

Uniforms from a closed-down school have been donated to less fortunate children in West Africa.

When the Downham Montessori School at Stow Bardolph closed down the parents offered around 100 sets of uniforms and sports kits to Downham Rotary.

Howard Phillips, president-elect, said: “As part of a large charity organisation we were able to liaise with Cambridge Sawston Rotary which has a project running assisting a school in The Gambia.”

The Bantaba Project focuses on helping people to help themselves, and strengthening communities through education and training workshops in order to tackle issues of illiteracy, health and poverty.

The uniforms and other items offered to the club have now reached a school in the Gambia where pupils are disadvantaged by poverty.

Howard added: “I would like to thank the parents of the former Downham Montessori School for their generosity and Cambridge Sawston Rotary for arranging the delivery of the uniforms to the Gambia.
