Denver VC Primary School put on a Christmas spectacular performance

Youngsters at Denver VC Primary School recreated the musical play, The Girl Who Made Santa Cry.

The play on Wednesday told the story of Charlie, who has spent her festive period looking after her sick mother and hasn't been able to visit Santa to tell him what she'd like for Christmas.

Finally, getting to see Santa as he was leaving on Christmas Eve, he asks her what she'd like for Christmas.

When Charlie says: "Nothing - I only want my mum to get better," the old man starts to cry tears of pride and joy at Charlie's kindness.

The play also incorporates the traditional nativity, as Charlie reads the story to her mother to help her rest.

The children rose to the occasion and put on a great show for the audience.

The audience was filled with laughter and tears, while the children performed beautifully.

Jon Lawrence, school music teacher, said: "It is wonderful to see children receive plaudits for their creativity and the joy it brings them.

"It is further proof that the arts have a greater role to play in education than is currently afforded in schools."
