Swaffham shoplifter Jody Marshall jailed after targeting stores in town and stealing vodka, Pokemon cards, meat and laundry products

A serial shoplifter who targeted several stores in town has been jailed and ordered to pay nearly £500 to her victims.

Jodie Marshall, aged 34, of Cley Road, Swaffham, appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court last Monday.

Following an investigation, she admitted to six thefts from shops and asked for five others to be taken into consideration.

They took place between November last year and February in stores around Swaffham, with vodka, Pokemon cards, meat and laundry products among the items she took.

She was jailed for 34 weeks and ordered to pay £480.36 in compensation.

After the case, Duncan Etchells, police staff supervisor for Operation Converter, which further investigated after she admitted the six charges, said: “We take shoplifting very seriously and understand the deep and detrimental impact it has on businesses and the wider community.

“By working with our retail partners, we are able to identify offenders and build strong cases to bring them to court.

“I hope she uses her time in prison wisely and receives the help and support she obviously needs.

“Shoplifting is not a victimless crime, the staff are exposed to greater risks and ultimately we all end up paying for these prolific and repeat offenders."
