Snettisham man headbutted woman several times after party, court told

Drink-fuelled violence erupted at a Snettisham home following a street party.

Craig Liam Yallop, 31, headbutted a woman “five or six times” before she locked herself in the downstairs toilet and called police.

Lynn Magistrates’ Court heard on Thursday that Yallop had downed several shots at the gathering near his Parkside home on July 26, 2020.

Prosecutor Denise Holland said he was told to go to bed because he’d been drinking heavily and the assault happened soon afterwards.

She told the bench that Yallop, who pleaded guilty to a charge of assault by beating, had no previous convictions, but added: “He did admit to officers that he had headbutted her.”

The court was told that the victim did not make a statement.

“Mr Yallop is filled with remorse,” said Hugh Cauthery in mitigation.

He said the street party was a lawful outside event and “drink was in plentiful supply”.

“He had shots of sambuca, vodka and the usual cocktail. He’d never been introduced to these shots and clearly it didn’t suit him.

“He has no previous convictions at all – he’s not a man inclined to violence. He has no recollection of it now.”

A pre-sentence report was ordered and Yallop was granted conditional bail to return to court on March 3.
