King’s Lynn’s Stuart Howlett set to cycle 255 miles in one day to raise funds for East of England Ambulance Service

An ambulance worker is getting ready to take on an enormous challenge this summer by cycling to every ambulance station in Norfolk in one day.

Stuart Howlett, 59, a supervisor at the motor ready department for the East of England Ambulance Service base in Lynn, plans to cycle 255 miles around Norfolk to raise funds for charity.

A keen cyclist and member of the Velouse Flyers Club, Stuart plans to pedal to the 17 ambulance stations across the county, starting and ending his journey in Lynn on June 11.

In West Norfolk, he will travel to the likes of Downham, Swaffham, Fakenham and Hunstanton, as well as travelling further afield.

Stuart was inspired to take on the mammoth challenge in order to raise funds for the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Charitable fund.

The charity helps look after ambulance workers in a number of ways, including their mental health.

Stuart said: “The charity itself is really important. It takes care of the people who take care of us.

“The funding is so important. If people can get behind me, it would be great. I could do with a push.”

As part of his job, Stuart prepares the 31 ambulances in Lynn for use by paramedic crews.

He has set up a JustGiving page to raise funds for the ambulance service.

“I support the crews when they come off as well. They are exhausted,” said Stuart, who joined the ambulance force a year and a half ago, said.

“I needed to do something that makes a difference, to work in a different environment and with different people. I really enjoy the job.”

Stuart plans to start his enormous ride at 5am and estimates he will return back to Lynn at around 9pm if he keeps at an average speed of 17mph.
