Success as King's Lynn education centre marks first anniversary
The husband and wife team behind a King's Lynn education centre are celebrating a year since they first opened their doors to just three students.
Since last November, Heather and Paul Rugg (pictured) have welcomed over 60 students to the Kip McGrath Education Centre and they celebrated with special Kip Cupcakes from their friends at Good Tastes.
Heather said: "I know times are a bit rough, but at Kip we have been celebrating! Numbers continue to grow, with most of our new students coming from personal recommendations, often from parents' Facebook posts about their children's progress. We have just ordered furniture and PCs for our third teaching space and appointed new staff.
"We were lucky to be able to work right through the first lockdown as the Kip McGrath franchise has had the facility to provide face to face online tutoring since 2014. Until this week a quarter of our students have been accessing their lessons online. The most recent guidance indicates that we are able to keep the centre open, with our however, we have asked families to access lessons online where possible. We estimate that roughly half our families will support the lockdown by keeping their kids at home."
The centre supports students from year 2 to GCSE level, with some adult learners, providing them with personalised learning programmes in English and maths. Some students reach their goals in just a few lessons, while others stay with the centre for much longer.
Heather said: "The Kip system, delivered by fully qualified teachers, is helping our students make accelerated progress - we often see improvements of a year or more in their first 10 sessions. Feedback from parents and schools has been fantastic."
