Swaffham couple attacked man in pub car park, court told
A couple are under weekend curfew at home after an “extremely nasty” assault on a man in a pub car park.
Camilla Cardy and Simon Landymore beat up Liam Pottle, with Cardy striking him several times around the head with the stiletto heel of one of her shoes.
Mr Pottle was left with bruising to his upper body and blood coming from an ear and eye socket.
Lynn magistrates heard yesterday that all three people had been in The White Hart in Swaffham on May 13 this year and left just before 1am.
Prosecuting, Nicola Pope said Cardy and Landymore, of Partridge Grove, Swaffham, had initially distanced themselves from the assault until they were shown CCTV footage.
The court was told that the three were known to each other and had left the pub via different exits.
Miss Pope said: “It’s right to say Mr Pottle was involved in an incident with Mr Landymore. He was doing his best to avoid Mr Landymore. The first thing he remembers is receiving a blow to the back of his head.”
Accounts administrator Cardy, 36, and self-employed panel beater Landymore, 46, both pleaded guilty to assault by beating.
Liz Simonds, mitigating, said there was confusion at the incident as Landymore had been attacked outside the pub by a man in a yellow top and he wrongly thought it was Mr Pottle.
Cardy, who had gone to get the car, had not seen this but then got involved.
Chairman of the bench, Stuart Hall, told the couple the attack could have proved fatal, adding: “This is without any question a case of you taking the law into your own hands and getting it totally wrong.”
Cardy and Landymore were both given curfews to remain at home between 9pm and 6am on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for 10 weeks. They were each ordered to pay £250 compensation, an £85 victim surcharge and £40 costs.
