Swaffham day of fun for battling Esmé at rugby club
Over £3,000 has been raised for a Swaffham two-year-old who was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year.
A fun day took place for Esmé Lambert at Swaffham Rugby Club on Sunday with organisers saying there were as many as many as 400 people at the event at its peak.
Among the activities taking place were Zumba, gymnastics and lots of music acts including the Silver Bee Band and a Rockavox choir.
Staff at St John’s Ambulance took part in the Zumba class, which was appreciated by organisers.
There were also inflatables and funfair rides for youngsters to enjoy alongside pets and an ice-cream van.
Esmé was in attendance herself, enjoying a lap of the playing field in a police car. Her sisters were part of the gymnastics team, while other members of the family were on hand to show their support for Esmé.
Having attended the fun day, Esmé then returned to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for three days as part of her ongoing treatment.
One of the organisers, Hils Genn, said: “Words can’t describe how much it means to see the Lamberts having some lovely family time.
“It was a great opportunity to show them how much support they have behind them.
“Esmé being there made it all worth it, and we did not know if she would be there because she is so poorly.”
Esmé was diagnosed with a brain tumour when she was one-year-old in October 2018.
And in November 2018, her parents Wendy and Aaron were told it was a malignant brain tumour called Ependymoma.
Mr Lambert said: “We couldn’t believe the size of it when we turned up and saw how much was there, and how hard you [organisers] must have worked.
“Thank you everyone for coming down. Esmé had a great day and loved every minute of it as did the rest of us.”
Swaffham and District Lions also supported the Esmé Mega Fun Day by manning the gate and bringing their pig race game to entertain visitors. Esmé enjoyed interacting with their lion mascot.
And Swaffham Football Club also offered their support on the day, presenting Esmé with a signed photo.
