A man was taken to hospital last night after police responded to the concerns of his daughter who said she had been unable to contact him in five days.

Officers believe the man had been lying ill at his home in Swaffham for at least two days before help was summoned.

In a social media post, Breckland Police said two officers had gone to the address after the man's daughter, who lives in London, raised her concerns.

After initially getting no answer, one of them climbed into the property through a downstairs window.

The post added: "They went upstairs to find the father who was in a bad way and had been laying there for at least a couple of days.

"A quick call to ambulance and with their swift response, paramedics say they may have saved a life."
