Location of nearly 10,000 homes to be built in West Norfolk - including King’s Lynn and Downham Market - is revealed
The location of nearly 10,000 homes to be built in West Norfolk has been revealed.
West Norfolk Council has set out where development can take place in the borough over the next 15 years as part of its new Local Plan, which was approved last week.
This key document helps to restrict the locations where new housing is allowed to be built while also providing a proposal for how it will meet government-set targets.
The council has been told to build 10,500 more homes by 2040 after Labour doubled the number it wants to see built to combat the housing shortage across the nation.
Growth is primarily focused on the urban centres of Lynn, Downham, Hunstanton and the Norfolk outskirts of Wisbech.
In total, 54% of the housing will be constructed in and around these towns – 30% in Lynn alone.
A quarter of the new homes will be built in villages.
Communities that will see the most housing built include Emneth (222), Grimston and Gayton (192), Upwell and Outwell (250) and St Clement (178).
Of these 10,000 homes, 1,562 are already completed or nearing completion.
