Temporary Jobcentre Plus planned for former Peacocks store in Broad Street, Lynn

A new Jobcentre Plus is expected to open in Lynn town centre shortly.

The temporary centre, due to be located in the former Peacocks store in Broad Street, is part of the government's support for West Norfolk people due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Department for Work and Pensions is opening at least 80 centres to deal with increased demand.

The DWP says: "They will increase capacity to provide tailored face-to-face support in a COVID-secure environment and help support more people back into work and progress into new roles."

A planning application for a change of signage at the Broad Street premises is with West Norfolk Council.

A spokesman for the DWP told the Lynn News that, if approval is granted, the timescale for its opening and how long it would remain open is unclear.

He said: "It's about increasing capacity and offering more support.

"The continued need for it will be assessed as it goes along."

Lynn's existing Jobcentre Plus at King's Court will remain unchanged.
