Swaffham Town Council ‘relieved’ car parking charges have been put on pause
A decision on car parking charges in Swaffham has been put on pause due to the undetermined future of a district council.
Jacob Morton, a Breckland Councillor representing Swaffham, told those at the town council’s full meeting last Wednesday that plans for car parking charges have been paused.
The authority revealed it is putting the brakes on making a decision about whether or not car parks in Swaffham will be charged for.
This comes as Breckland Council, as well as many other authorities, are facing an uncertain future with local government being reorganised.
Cllr Morton informed Swaffham councillors that all action on car parking has been put on pause.
This news was a relief to some of the councillors.
Cllr Morton said: “We don’t know if Breckland Council will exist in two to three years.
“Whatever authority comes next will make that decision.”
Deputy Mayor of Swaffham Lindsey Beech said that she was “very relieved” that car parking charges will not be coming to the town in the near future.
