Downham Market’s only bank Lloyds sets to stay open until March 2024
Downham’s last remaining bank which was due to close next month has announced it will be staying open into early next year.
Back in March, Lloyds announced that it would be closing its doors on September 4. However, it has now been confirmed that the bank on Bridge Street will stay open a little longer.
It will now close permanently in March 25 2024, and be replaced with a “banking hub” provided by the service LINK.
The hub consists of a shared banking space and will be accessible for those living in Downham no matter who they bank with.
Lloyds Bank has been approached by the Lynn News for comment about why it will remain open in the market town for seven months longer than intended.
Previously speaking to the Lynn News, a spokesperson from Lloyds said: "Like many other high street businesses, we’ve seen people using our branches less frequently in recent years as more customers choose to do most of their everyday banking online.
"We’re responding to the way our customers use our branches.
“We’ll continue to invest in our branch network, but we have to make sure our branches are where customers need and use them most.
“As a result, we've made the difficult decision to close this branch because customers are using it less often.
“In addition, the majority of customers are also using alternative ways to bank."
