Brand new John Chapman Day Centre for over 55s opens in Swaffham
A new day centre has opened in a town giving residents the chance to make friends and stay connected to each other.
Many gathered for the grand opening of the John Chapman Day Centre in Swaffham, an over 55s safe place which aims to help people combat loneliness, and improve health and wellbeing.
Opened by deputy mayor Paul Darby, the venue was given a new lease of life by Radis Community Care and its team at the neighbouring Old Maltings Extra Care Housing Service.
Visitors who attended the opening enjoyed hearing about what the venue will have to offer including dancing and knitting as well as hot and healthy meals.
Radis care worker Lisa Kneeshaw said: “The open day was a great way to meet the community and show off our day centre.
“It’s lovely to see people get together and laugh and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
To celebrate the arrival of the new centre, Radis is offering a free introductory session for first-time visitors.
“Having a safe place to attend, that is filled with like-minded people multiple times a week, provides people with the opportunity to make friends and stay connected,” said Cinita Head, service manager at The Old Maltings.
Carers and Staff at Radis hope that it will give residents a routine to thrive off as it will be open between 10am and 3pm every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
A free session can be claimed by contacting the Radis Community Care team by email jcdaycentre@radis.co.uk or calling 01760 300654.
