Two cut off by tide after swimming to Brancaster island

A Hunstanton lifeboat crew was called to rescue two people who had been cut off by the tide after swimming to an island off Brancaster yesterday.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) received the call at 11.34am on Bank Holiday Monday after two people had swam across the channel to Scolt Head Island.

They were then cut off on the island due to the strong tidal current.

After the UK Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat, the two people were landed on Brancaster beach where they were taken into the care of the local coastguard response team.

The response team advised them on the risk of swimming in strong tidal water according to a RNLI spokesman.
