Two men from King's Lynn take on Swedish hike for MIND

Samuel Brown, of Downham Market and Lien Lavell of Lynn are taking a trek into the Swedish wilderness to raise awareness about male mental health.

The pair, who have known each other for years, will hike the famous King's Trail (Kungsleden) located in Swedish Lapland.

The trail itself is an impressive 270 miles long and it passes through the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve, one of the largest protected areas in Europe.

It is also one of the few places where one might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Lien and Samuel will be taking the bare necessities on their trip, living off ration packs and camping in tents, which undoubtedly will take them both back to their army days.

One of Norfolk's leading mental health charities MIND are championing Lien and Samuel with their campaign and have helped them raise £360 so far.

MIND have clear guidelines on their website about where any fundraising money goes.

They say that £20 can pay for a counselling session, £200 can pay for MHFA(Mental health first aid) training for a staff member and £40 for complimentary holistic sessions-which are increasingly popular among the younger generations.

"There's a stigma surrounding male mental health," says Lien, who over the years has struggled with his own mental health issues, "Suicide is the biggest killer of men our age in Norfolk, by donating to MIND we hope to help boost the facilities already available. More importantly, we hope to start a conversation and inspire other men to follow in our footsteps."
