Update: Man dies in rush hour accident which closed the A148 between Hillington and Knights Hill




Police are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 50s died in a single vehicle collision this evening (Wednesday, September 23).

The A148 was blocked off from the Knights Hill Roundabout due to the incident near Hillington.

Officers were called just after 5.30pm to reports of the collision involving a green Ford Mustang which left the A148.

A spokeswoman for Norfolk Police said: "Emergency services are still at the scene (8.30pm) and road closures are in place at Knights Hill and in Hillington village and will be for some hours. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes.

"A man in his 50s has been confirmed dead at the scene."

Fire crews from Sandringham, South Lynn and North Lynn were called to the scene.

The scene was made safe and the vehicle occupants were released into the care of the ambulance using hydraulic rescue equipment.

The stop message for the fire crew was received at 6.06pm to indicate no further assistance was required.

The A148 was still blocked off from the Knights Hill Roundabout around 7.30pm with motorists having to turn round as they turned off.

King's Lynn Police posted a warning on social media at 7pm to say the road was closed.

The post said: "The A148 is currently closed between Knights Hill and Hillington due to a road traffic collision. Please avoid the area."

An eyewitness said there was a fire which was "tiny" when he arrived but then "became massive."

He added: "I didn't see what happened but I was running up and down the traffic trying to find a fire extinguisher."
