The Angel at Watlington makes final three of 2025 Eat Game Awards

A village pub has shortlisted in the final three of a national competition which celebrates game meat.

The Angel at Watlington has made the final three of the Eat Game Awards, which celebrate the best restaurants and pubs serving and promoting game meat as a sustainable and healthier alternative across the UK.

Staff will find out the results at an award ceremony hosted in London in March, having received votes from customers both on normal days and during taster menu days.

“We are very lucky to have a local supplier for everything so they can provide the best quality produce to our customers all year round,” Emily Phipps, the owner of the pub, said.

“We couldn’t have achieved this without our amazing local suppliers as without their support and the standard of their produce we wouldn’t be able to produce the dishes we do.

“As a team we are so proud of this achievement and the recognition it has brought to the pub and the local area.

The Angel, which was awarded a second AA rosette last year amid a full refurbishment of the venue, now also has a converted ‘horsebox’ which makes up a mobile bar and kitchen.

Ms Phipps says this is “to allow us to be able to bring the Angel and the whole experience to you too”.
