Shouldham set to get new play park

The youngsters of Shouldham are set to get a new and improved play park at the King George V playing field.

It will happen thanks to a £100,000 grant from FCC Communities Foundation, a £23,700 Community Infrastructure grant from West Norfolk borough council , a £1,000 grant from Arnold Clark and fundraising by the local community.

The money will be used to remove the dilapidated equipment and instal new, exciting and inclusive equipment for a wide range of ages from toddler to teens.

Shouldham Parish Council chairman, Nigel Walsh, believes the facility will make a huge difference to the lives of people living in the area.

He says: “This project will provide a real boost to the people of Shouldham. It’s fantastic that FCC Communities Foundation has awarded us this money and we’re really looking forward to our new play park taking shape over the next year”.

FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund.

FCC Communities Foundation spokesperson, Penny Horne says: “We’re delighted to be supporting the Shouldham play park project and pleased our funding will provide such a fantastic facility for children and young families within Shouldham and the surrounding villages.

FCC Communities Foundation is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that make a difference to local communities and we’re really looking forward to seeing this one take shape soon.”

Mr Walsh hopes the play park will be ready to use by spring 2023.

The project has been three years in the planning, due to the pandemic interruption, and the resolve of the project instigators and community fund-raisers Zia Mason and Helen Coggles, supported by the Parish Council shows what can be achieved when a community comes together.
