Warning to paddle boarders after two people nearly swept out to sea near Brancaster
A warning has been issued to paddle boarders after two were nearly swept out to sea on Saturday.
The Wells volunteer lifeboat crew were called out at 5.04pm after reports that two people were being swept out between Wells Beach and Scolt Head Island, near Brancaster.
The inshore lifeboat launched in Holkham Bay at 5.28pm, soon after a further report that a third person had entered the water to help the paddle boarders.
The crew arrived on the scene at 5.35pm, only to learn that all three had managed to reach the beach, where they were safe and well and with the local coastguard.
Lifeboat operations manager Chris Hardy said: "We are pleased that there was a happy outcome from today’s event as it could so easily have been very different.
"The tidal currents around our coastline are extremely strong and the paddle boarders could have been swept out to sea, especially with an offshore wind.
"It is safer to paddle board in the creeks where the land is always near or stay very close to the water’s edge if doing it from the beach."
