Why do we have an International Black Cat Day?
October 27, otherwise known as International Black Cat Day celebrates the beauty of these sleek creatures.
(There has been some debate as to whether the day actually falls on August 17).
The day also seeks to raise awareness about the low adoption rates for black cats.
According to charity Cats Protection black cats can take 13 per cent longer to be rehomed than cats of other colours.
Many people don't like to adopt black cats because they have been surrounded by superstition and controversy in the past.
Some think they aren't as photogenic as other cats.
However, throughout contemporary pop culture there have been many beloved black cats such as sassy mouthed Salem from Sabrina the teenage witch and Isis from Star Trek.
The black cat has become somewhat iconic.
So we asked West Norfolk to show us their furbabies.
We chose three of the most adorable ebony entries.
Meet Merlin, who was sent in by owner Marie.
Stanley the cat was sent in by owner Trina, and is five months old.
Charkey and Frankie are good friends! Sent in by Mum Aimee.
Have a pawsome day!
