Winter Wonderland theme as new play park opens in Shouldham

A new play park will open in Shouldham on Saturday – less than three months after the old one was taken down.

There will be a Winter Wonderland theme to the grand opening event, with Santa paying a visit.

The equipment at King George V Playing Field was bought thanks to grants: £100,000 from FCC

Communities Foundation, £23,700 from West Norfolk Council and £1,000 from Arnold Clark, as well as fundraising of more than £10,000 by the local community.

Work started on October 5 when the old equipment was cleared and ground works began. Just eight weeks later, the installation of the new equipment was complete, ready for the grand opening at noon on Saturday.

Shouldham Parish Council chairman Nigel Walsh said that the completion of this project is

testament to the hard work and dedication of the Project Play Park team, with dozens of fundraising events held over three years that have been so well supported by the community and enabled access to the grants that have been awarded.

FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community

projects through the Landfill Communities Fund, and spokesperson Penny Horne said: “It’s wonderful to see something we have funded finally open and ready to make such a difference to the young people and families in Shouldham.

"FCC Communities Foundation is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that benefit local communities and this is a great example of what can be achieved.”
