Sporle woman Harley Rose Hawes sentenced in King’s Lynn Court after kicking police officer and shouting in neighbour’s garden
A woman who kicked a police officer and was swearing in a neighbour’s garden in the early hours was “trying to drink herself dead”.
Harley Rose Hawes, 41, of Hills Close in Sporle, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where she was sentenced for two offences.
At the beginning of March, Hawes pleaded guilty to assaulting the officer as well as using threatening words to cause alarm or distress.
Prosecutor Asif Akram told the court that the incident took place on February 12, when the police were called by a Sporle resident reporting a woman was shouting and swearing loudly in her front garden.
Hawes was repeatedly shouting “mother-f**ker” and was described as being “erratic” and in “total rage”.
The woman said the incident left her feeling “shaken up and upset”.
The police were called, and when they arrived at the scene, they were concerned for Hawes’ wellbeing.
She was trying to get away from officers, and when she was handcuffed while being arrested, she began to squeeze one of their hands.
Hawes then threw herself onto the ground, bringing the police officer down with her onto wet grass.
When they tried to detain her again, she kicked the officer.
When taken into custody, Hawes apologised and said that she “didn’t mean” to kick out.
In mitigation, Sally Dale said that Hawes suffers from numerous mental health problems and was “trying to drink herself dead”.
The solicitor said that Hawes did not know the woman whose garden she was in.
Ms Dale added: “She has no idea why it was that she was outside the lady’s house.”
She said that Hawes’ kick to the police officer was accidental.
Hawes was handed a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £50 in compensation to the police officer and £25 to the woman whose garden she was in.
She will also pay court costs of £40 and a victim surcharge of £26.
