King’s Lynn woman to appear back in court for sentencing after pouring a drink over man’s head
A 29-year-old woman has been sentenced after assaulting a man who did not want to have a fight.
Jessica Woods, of no fixed address, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court last Thursday, where she pleaded guilty to assault.
She committed the offence on December 12 at a property in Lynn.
Prosecutor Nicola Lamb said that police were called after a man was assaulted in his home.
Woods and her partner were standing outside the property when her partner asked the victim to come outside, instigating a fight.
The court heard that the victim did not want to as he did not want to get in trouble.
Woods proceeded to enter the property and poured beer over his head. She then “got in his face”.
Ms Lamb described it as an “unpleasant assault”.
Woods has several previous convictions.
In mitigation, solicitor George Sorrell said she is a lady who has “suffered ups and downs” in her life.
These have included “difficult relationships with gentlemen”.
"She does not always mix in the best company. However, she is not blessed with the best social graces, and she can be quite aggressive herself at times,” Mr Sorrell said.
"This man called her a slag, she doesn't class herself in that category.
"She did not have a relationship with this man.”
Mr Sorrel said Woods knows that “she has got to keep her temper”.
"But it has improved,” he added. “In a situation like that before, her reaction would be to punch him in the face – but she withdrew, she poured the drink over his head, and left.
"She is taking medication for mental health problems."
Magistrates decided to adjourn Woods’ case so that the probation service can carry out a pre-sentence report.
Woods will return to court on May 2 for sentencing, and has been released on unconditional bail.
