Gaywood woman stole bank card from friend to buy drugs
A woman from Gaywood betrayed a friend by stealing his bank card to buy drugs.
The victim could not find the card when he woke at home on March 19.
He phoned the bank to cancel it and was told it had been used to withdraw £200 at Morrisons and two lots of £50 at a Spar.
CCTV footage showed it was Charnelle Hart, the victim's now ex-partner, who was responsible, Lynn Magistrates’ Court heard on Thursday.
Hart, of Parkway, Gaywood, pleaded guilty to theft and fraud by false representation on March 19.
She had been taking illegal drugs – particularly cocaine – for a long time, said George Sorrell in mitigation.
He described problems in her life from the age of 11 and eventually being persuaded to try cocaine.
The court was told that Hart was a carer for the victim and, for this reason, she knew his PIN.
“But she acknowledges that she knew she shouldn’t have withdrawn that amount of money. It’s one thing to take £5 or £10 with their knowledge.
“And what was it spent on? Cocaine and some food - she’s quite honest about that,” said Mr Sorrell.
“She didn’t choose the life she’s had but she has chosen to change it.
“This is a lady who needs support.”
The case was adjourned to August 24 for preparation of a pre-sentence report.
Hart was granted conditional bail not to contact the victim and not to go to a specific address in Highgate.
