Gayton Brownie Teagan Thorne presented with gold award at Skaters in Walpole Highway

A youngster was presented with the prestigious Brownie Gold Award at a special visit to Skaters roller disco in Walpole Highway.

The award is gained by completing all six Brownie theme awards plus a special gold challenge and is the highest award gained at Brownies.

Teagan Thorne’s achievements during her three years at Gayton Brownies include Brownie interest badges in ‘My rights’, aviation, baking and inventing, with activities including creating a fishing robot and baking queen of heart jam tarts.

She ran a Christmas bauble marbling activity evening for the other Brownies and has been on residential trips including Hunstanton Sealife Centre, a sleepover under the ocean tunnel, and a Beauty and the Beast-themed holiday in Suffolk last summer.

She completed her camp skills builder at Hautbois Activity Centre at Coltishall, with tent pitching, archery and fire lighting challenges.

Teagan said: “I have enjoyed the sleepovers, and the best activities were making an obstacle course and the invisible ink writing – and snack time each week.

“My favourite time was growing a sunflower and winning for having the tallest one. My favourite badge was aviation and the parachute challenge badge”.

Teagan was an “excellent” Brownie Sixer – leader of her Rabbits group – who won the termly points prizes on several occasions.

Freebridge Lynn district commissioner, Catherine Leigh, presented the award at Skaters in Walpole, where the Brownies whizzed around at the roller disco.

Catherine thanked Teagan’s proud parents for all their support. She has now joined Gayton Guides for new adventures and challenges.
