West Norfolk youngsters out to make their mark at Championships
West Norfolk athletes will be out to make their name at the English Schools Athletics Championships this weekend.
The ESAA National Championships, which are staged each year, is the fourth largest athletics event in the world.
They were televised live by SKY Sports between 2008 and 2013 and bring together the best athletes in each county across England.
Nearly all the UK Olympic athletics team members have featured in the ESAA Championships over the years.
Kate (15) and Meg (14) Willis, from Dersingham, have both been selected to represent Norfolk at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
They will travel with the Norfolk team on Thursday.
Meg will be competing in the junior girls long jump and, although she also qualified for the 300m, she had to choose between the two events for the championships.
Kate will be running in the intermediate girls 800m, having just recovered from and regained her fitness after an illness which has prevented her form competing during the middle part of the season.
Both have had to achieve tough qualifying standards to compete at this event against the top athletes in the country.
Two athletes from West Norfolk Athletic Club have also been selected to compete for Norfolk at the same event.
Lucy Koenigsberger (inter girls hammer) will be attending her fourth championship where she will hope to continue her early-season form.
Alfie Williams (inter boys shot) will be competing at his second event, where he hopes to break the 14-metre mark for the first time.
The athletes would like to thank their coaches and the club for all the help and assistance so far this season.
Next year's championships will again be in Birmingham, the last time before the stadium is demolished to rebuild for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
