Blank weekend for West Norfolk's senior footballing sides

It was a blank weekend for West Norfolk's footballing representatives in the Thurlow Nunn League and also in the extra preliminary round of the Emirates FA Cup.

A busy weekend of action started in the FA Cup, where all eyes were on Swaffham Town as they hosted higher-league Yaxley at Shoemakers Lane.

In what was a hard-fought contest, Yaxley's extra quality eventually shone through with The Cuckoos more clinical in front of goal.

Kyle Nolan, Tom Walmsley and Daniel Cotton were on target for the Southern League Division One Central visitors, with Ryan Pearson replying for the Pedlars in a 3-1 defeat.

On Friday night, a Telmo Rocha goal was good enough to see Thetford Town defeat a plucky Fakenham Town outfit 1-0 in the same competition at Mundford Road.

There were plenty of goals in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North as both Downham Town and King's Lynn Town Reserves - winners in the opening week of the campaign - suffered defeat on their travels.

Newly-promoted Harleston Town recorded an impressive 5-1 win at home over Downham Town.

Nathan Stone notched a brace, with Lawrence Cheese, Kyle Baker and Scott Roberts adding their names to the scoresheet for Adam Gusterson's charges.

At Brewers Green Lane, Diss Town won by the odd goal in five at home against Lynn's second string, who registered through Alex Clunan and Kieran Shipp.

Steve Holder and Charlie Lambe scored for the second weekend running, while Sam Last netted an 84th-minute winner after Diss goalkeeper Jake Hayhoe had saved a penalty.
