Lynn's Charlie wins silver

Charlie Wakefield, from West Norfolk Junior Badminton, won both a silver and a bronze medal at the under-19 Badminton England silver graded tournament in Milton Keynes.

Wakefield, 15, who is personally sponsored by Forza West Midlands, won through to the final of the boys' singles where he was narrowly beaten to the title.

He then won bronze in the boys' doubles event.

There was a large entry in this first competition of the new season, with six groups of up to five boys in each.

Wakefield caused an upset in his group by winning all his games, including defeating the number three seed, Stephen Jong, from Shropshire.

The teenager comfortably won his quarter-final match and faced the second seed, Christopher Chong, from Surrey, in the last four. But his great run continued, and despite dropping the first game, he shocked Chong by winning the next two games 21-6, 21-13 to reach the final.

There he lost to Mannah Rahman from Essex 15-21, 15-21, but took home the silver medal.

Playing with Luke Davies, from Sussex, in the boys' doubles, the pair were runners-up in the group stage, putting them into the semi-finals.

There they unfortunately met the top seeds, but played well, losing a close match 15-21, 17-21 to receive the bronze medals.

West Norfolk Junior Badminton is sponsored by Roythorne’s Garage of North Wootton.
