Fakenham race meeting falls foul of the weather
Today's horse racing meeting at Fakenham has been cancelled after heavy rain overnight left the track waterlogged.
The venue was set to stage a seven-race card and despite officials being optimistic racing would go ahead on Monday, 13mm of rain overnight has left the track unraceable.
With further rain forecast throughout the morning until midday, officials were forced to cancel the fixture, which was due to get underway at 1.15pm, due to waterlogging.
Clerk of the course David Hunter told the Racing Post: "We had a lot more rain than we were forecast overnight, 13mm by 5.30am and it's still raining leaving standing water around the place so we had no option to abandon.
"When the emergency vehicles can't get around the inside of the track you have no other option and hopefully it will dry out before our next meeting on Friday week."
