Fakenham Town ready to face up to an Irish question in FA Vase

Fakenham Town will hope to take another step along the road to Wembley tomorrow when they host Milton Keynes Irish in the FA Vase third round.

Some tickets remain available for the clash at the Daly Stadium, where the hosts will hope to follow up their dramatic penalty shootout win against Hashtag United a fortnight ago.

The Ghosts go into the match a point clear at the top of Thurlow Nunn Division One North, having missed the chance to extend their lead at the summit with a 1-1 draw against Lakenheath on Saturday.

Fakenham took an early lead through Jack Robinson, only to be pegged back by an 89th minute equaliser from the Suffolk side.

The Ghosts are also set to be without midfielder Lewis Sturman after he was sent off during the second half.

Milton Keynes Irish was only formed in the summer, following the merger of three clubs – Milton Keynes Robins, known as Buckingham Town, Unite MK and Milton Keynes Irish Vets.

But they have made a strong start in their new collective guise, currently sitting top of the Spartan South Midlands League first division.

And they will have no fears about coming to Norfolk, having won away at Thurlow Nunn Premier Division leaders Wroxham on penalties in the last round.

Elsewhere, both Downham Town and King’s Lynn Town Reserves will be looking to return to action after their derby match was postponed for a second time in midweek.

A statement on the Linnets’ website said: “Investigation work is being carried out at The Memorial Field as it is believed there are possible burst water pipes under the pitch at the old swimming pool end of the ground.”

Downham are due to host Needham Market Reserves at the Memorial Field, while Lynn’s second string travel to Sheringham.

The draw has also been made for the second round of the Norfolk Senior Cup this week.

Downham will travel to Dussindale and Hellesdon Rovers, while Lynn’s reserves will host Acle United.

Fakenham have been drawn away to Harleston Town, while Swaffham Town will entertain Mulbarton Wanderers at Shoemakers Lane.

Heacham’s reward for their 1-0 win over Mattishall on Saturday is a trip to Long Stratton and Mundford will be away to Easton following their 4-1 win over Blofield United on Tuesday night.

Mundford are due to travel to Scole United tomorrow in the Anglian Combination Premier Division.

The Senior Cup ties are due to be played on January 23, but can take place in the midweek before or after depending on whether the home club has floodlights.
