Ryston athlete Ryan breaks 15-second barrier
Ryston Runners sprinter Ryan Wood was the star of the show as club members participated in two events during a busy weekend of action.
Athletes lined up for the Quad Kids event at Yarmouth on Saturday (U11 and U13s) and the Eastern Young Athletes League (EYAL) match, at Norwich, on Sunday (U13, U15, U17).
Wood, as an under-13 boy, took part in both matches.
He finished second overall in his age group and ran 14.3 in the 100 metres on both days.
He also long-jumped 4.25m, which is just shy of his PB, on both days, and a final highlight was running a new 800m PB of 2.49.
Also competing on Saturday was Ella Goldring who finished fourth overall in the under-11 girls, with a very impressive 600m in 2.09.
Joining her in the same section was Persephone Milburn in her first competition as a Ryston athlete.
Milburn ran 16.0 secs for 75m.
In the under-11 boys, Marcus Wood had a good day, throwing more than 20m in the vortex.
Riley Bell, in the under-13 boys, ran an impressive 800m time of 2.54.
Goldring, this time competing in the under-13 girls, again showed Ryston's pedigree over 800m, dipping under three mins with a time of 2.55.
In the EYAL, on Sunday, Jay Liczbinski and Liam Clare (under-15 boys) both continued their good season over the hurdles by taking further time off their PBs.
Liczbinski ran 13.0 secs for second and Clare 14.5.
Clare also threw a new PB in the javelin with a throw more than 19 metres.
Jess Boxall ran an impressive 300m in difficult hot conditions to finish second in the under-17 girls with a time of 44.9 secs.
Mia Moore ran 46.4 secs in the under-15 girls 300m and Joe McNulty ran 48.1in the under-15 boys.
David MacQueen won the long jump in the under-13 boys with 4.77m as well as finishing third in both the 100m (13.2) and 200m.
Lucy Oakley won the under-13 girls shot with a throw of 8.99m.
Charlie Wakefield was second in the under-17 boys 800m.
Campbell Pick ran an impressive 800m to finish third with a new PB of 2.18 and Clare equalled his PB of 13.8 secs in the 100m.
Also in the EYAL, youngsters from West Norfolk Athletic Club produced some valiant performances against top opposition.
For the under-17 men, Charlie Williams was first in the discus (34.12m), first in the B string shot 11.44m, and fifth in the 200m (24.5sec) while Alfie Williams was first in the high jump (1.65m), third in the long jump (5.41m), and first in the shot put (13.22m).
Representing the under-13 boys, Charlie Tunmore threw 16.92m in a non-scoring javelin and 3.53m in the long jump and Thomas O’Neill was first in the javelin (22.60m).
For the under-15 boys, Joseph Williams was fourth in the javelin (34.02m), third in the high jump (1.55m) and third in the long jump (4.94m).
Abi-Lou Page was fourth in the discus (28.38m) and sixth in the shot (6.41m) in the under-15 girls.
In the same age category, Poppy Tunmore ran 2.56.2 in the 800 metres and was fifth in the B string shot (5.09m),
Amber Scott recorded a time of 13.7 in the 100m B string 13.7,4.64m in the long jump and 16.50m in the javelin while
Ruby Schwarz clocked 13.6 in a non-scoring 100m and 4.42m in the long jump.
