King’s Lynn lose at Kidderminster as their spot in the National League North play-off places hang in the balance
Kidderminster Harriers 2 King’s Lynn Town 0
A second loss in the space of four days - and a lack of activity in the transfer market - are threatening to derail King's Lynn Town's promotion hopes.
The goal-shy Linnets suffered a 2-0 reverse at Kidderminster Harriers tonight to leave their National League North play-off place hanging in the balance.
Tonight's loss - a third defeat in four games - could prove the most damaging yet for Adam Lakeland's side, who have 11 games left to try to cement their place in the end-of-season play-off mix.
To rub salt into the wounds, Harriers' first goal came from Kyle Morrison - one of two new signings for the Worcestershire outfit this week - in the first half after his header went through the hands of Lynn goalkeeper Paul Jones.
The visitors again went into the game without loan midfielder Cody Johnson and defender Kyle Callan McFadden while there was no sign of Cameron Forde-Brown or Theo Williams in the matchday squad for a Lynn side crying out for goals and lacking in confidence.
Harriers dominated the first 45 minutes at the Aggborough Stadium while lacklustre Lynn failed to lay a glove on the home side during another abject first-half display.
Lynn looked a shadow of the side that demolished Kidderminster 4-0 in the reverse fixture at The Walks back in November.
All the hosts had to show for their first half dominance was Morrison's 11th-minute header from a corner - and Lynn will have been relieved that it was only just the one.
The visitors made a double substitution for the start of the second half with Josh Coulson and Gold Omotayo replacing Kian Ronan and Ross Crane respectively.
An acrobatic save from Jones denied Morrison a certain second goal at the start of the second period.
The Linnets responded by forcing Christian Dibble into his first stop of the evening as the home goalkeeper pushed Josh Hmami's long-range effort away to his right.
But the pressure was short-lived as Kidderminster broke upfield to double their advantage through Reece Devine eight minutes after the restart.
Omotayo’s header was well kept out by Dibble as the big frontman came close to scoring against his former club while the fingertips of Jones thwarted Ryley Reynolds and Amari Morgan-Smith at the other end.
Lynn have picked up just 16 points from their last 13 games, finding the back of the net 13 times.
Four of their final 11 home games come against sides currently in the top five of the league table.
And with Lakeland's side occupying the final play-off spot, they can ill-afford too many more slip-ups having played more games than all of the sides around them.
